FAQ`s

Q: Which should I choose, Synthetic, Human Hair or a Blend of both?

Synthetic Hair
Today's better quality synthetic wigs are virtually indistinguishable from human hair, except to the most practiced eye. Synthetic wigs are easier to care for and lower priced. The monofilament/Kanekalon fiber "hair" used to make synthetic wigs has "memory" which means it maintains its wave or curl, texture and volume, requiring minimal upkeep. Synthetic wigs, however, are not designed to accept a permanent wave or color change and can be permanently damaged by the use of curling irons, blow dryers or hot rollers.

Human Hair
A human hair wig is the most natural looking option. It can be cut, styled, perm or colored to suit your personal taste. Human hair wigs are more durable than synthetic wigs. However, human hair wigs are more expensive that synthetic wigs and require more care. They have to be shampooed, dried, styled and conditioned, just like your natural hair. Like your hair, they can lose their style if they get wet and frizz on humid days.

Human Hair/Synthetic Blend

A human hair blend wig is a mix of both human and synthetic hair. The ratio of fibers vary between manufacturers. Some wigs may have a 50/50 blend while others may have a 70/30 ratio. In any case, the combination of human and synthetic hair makes for a stronger, more durable and versatile wig.

Q: Can I color a human hair hairpiece?
Human hair wigs can be colored and highlighted like growth hair. The drawback is that the color will fade with prolonged exposure to sun just like growth hair and will need to be recovered or highlighted. Coloring a human hair wig requires special training and should never be attempted at home. A trained stylist will always do a test strand and in some cases may try multiple tests to achieve the desired shade.

Q: Can I perm a human hair hairpiece?
Perming a human hair hairpiece is very different from perming growth hair. It should never be attempted with home perm kits. A human hair wig will tend to hold the perm as it does not “grow out” like growth hair. Consult your stylist.

Q: Can a mix of human and synthetic hair be used in the same hairpiece?
Goldy Hair offers a blend of human hair and synthetic fiber wig. This can provide the advantages of both: some sway and movement and the natural feel of the human hair, along with the style keeping and easy care of the synthetic.

Q: How many hairpieces do I need to live a normal, active life?

Regardless of the type of wig you choose, it is always a good idea to have a back-up hairpiece. With synthetic wigs, an unplanned exposure to sudden heat may cause frizzing that a professional will need to fix or, in most cases, tossed out. If this happens, you will need an alternative hairpiece to wear. Though human hair wigs can last longer, they require periodic repairs during their lifespan by a professional. Your back-up hairpiece should allow you to feel comfortable in any situation.
Q: How do I know what size to get?

Average wigs fit heads from 21.5" to 22.5". Ninety-five percent of our customers fall into this range. For instructions on how to measure your head size, click here. Your wig should be worn on your natural hairline, approximately four fingers above the eyebrows. The back of the wig should be pulled down to the natural hairline in the back. Wigs have adjustable elastic tabs in the back so you can adjust your wig for a secure, comfortable fit. There are also small tabs in the front of the ears that can be adjusted to hold the wig close to the face.

Q: How do I put on a wig?
Wigs should be worn on the natural hairline (for most people it is four finger-widths above the eyebrow).

  • - Remove wig from the plastic bag or box. Gently remove the protective hair net from your wig. Give your wig a few good shakes to separate the fibers and give some body to the hair. Some wigs need to be shaken to release the preset styling.
  • - Brush your hair off your face at the top and sides. If your hair is too long, you may want use bobby pins to help keep it off your face, back at the sides, and up at the nape. Some women use a wig liner or wig cap to keep their existing hair in place.
  • - Hold your wig at the sides with the woven label in back. Place it at your natural hairline and slide it on from front to back. Adjust the wig as needed so the front edge is just over your natural hairline. Use the ear tabs to center your wig from left to right. Adjust the Velcro tabs in the back if necessary for a more secure fit.
  • - Tuck in any stray hairs at the front, sides and nape. Now you're ready for styling!

Q: How do hairpieces stay on the head?

A variety of attachment methods are available. Depending on your individual pattern of hair loss, personal life-style and desire for security, you can choose one or another. Hair weaving or bonding (i.e., gluing or tying a hairpiece to existing hair) is generally not recommended as it can place a lot of strain on existing hair. Full wigs can be attached to growth hair with mini-clips. The clips should be rotated periodically to avoid putting prolonged pressure on the same area. Attachment to a bare scalp generally requires double-sided tape.

Q: How do I choose the right color for me?

Most hair colors fall into either 'warm' or 'cool' families. If you better with gold jewelery, you are in the gold type. Gold types are more suited to warmer colors. If you have golden, olive or dark skin and brown or dark eyes (most Latinas, Asians and African Americans fall into this category). You tan easily and the veins in your inner wrists are green. If you feel you look better in silver jewelry, you are a silver type. For Silver types, the color choices are cool tones. You're a 'cool' if you have fair skin and blue or green eyes. You burn before you tan and the veins in your wrists run blue. If you're confused because you sometimes burn, sometimes tan, you likely skew warm.

If you have warm skin, opt for golden shades such as caramel and bronze in a darker shade than your skin. Avoid jet-black hair which will wash you out and if you do opt for a golden shade, don't go too light If you have cool shade, avoid colors that will highlight the ruddiness of your skin tone: Gold, auburn and copper. Ash blondes and cool browns work best.

Important note:  If you are naturally a light blonde you probably don't want to suddenly change to a dark color or it will look abnormal. It is usually best to stay within 4 levels of your natural shade, which still offers you a wide range of color choices. If for some reason you feel that determining your color type is too difficult, or you are unsure of your type, simply take a hand-held mirror and stand outside in direct sunlight. Look closely at your hair as the sun is shining on it. Look for the underlying base color that reflects off of your hair. If you see glints of red, orange or gold (yellow) you can choose hair colors with those base colors and feel safe. If the color glinting off your hair is bluish, purplish or greenish you will want to choose hair colors with the blue, violet, or neutral base colors.

Q: What is the best lace color for my skin tone?

Transparent: Ideal for people with light and fair complexion. It is suitable for most complexions.

Middle Brown: Matches natural and true brown skin tones.
Light Brown: Matches moderately fair to light brown skin tones.
Dark Brown: Recommended for people with dark skin tones.

In case you’ve chosen a lace color that doesn’t match your skin tone, there are quick remedies you can do to solve this problem.

When you find that your lace color is lighter than your scalp, you can try the following methods to darken your lace:

Method 1: makeup foundation/concealer

This method is the easiest and quickest one, but it’s only a temporary solution to fix and adjust your lace color. You only need a foundation powder and a brush to correct your lace color.

Firstly, flip the wig inside out. Then take a foundation/concealer and lightly press the product onto your lace to make it blend with your skin complexion. This takes only about a minute.

This technique is best for short-term lace wig wearers as makeup becomes messy and wears off after 2 to 3 days.

Method 2: Lace tint spray/makeup spray

Lace tint spray or makeup spray is better applied on wet lace if you choose this method. Spray the tint on the back of the lace. You can let it air dry for a few minutes or blow dry the back for a few seconds.

Method 3: Dyeing lace

Fill a basin with warm water. Choose one dye shade that can match your skin tone. Use a couple of drops of dye and dip the lace into the basin for about 10 minutes. Check the color often or until it has reached your desired tone. Do not submerge the entire wig.

Next, you need to wash it with cold water to make sure the color has set in. In this step, you can use any shampoo and conditioner. After washing and conditioning, simply let the hair dry naturally. This method is relatively more complex, but the effect is permanent.

Method 4: Black tea bags

If you don’t have any dye on hand, there’s another method for you. Just prepare 10 black tea bags and a pot of hot water, and you can tint your lace easily!

Prepare a pack of 10 or 20 black tea bags and throw the tea bags in a pot of boiled water. Use a spoon or any utensil you have to gently press down on the tea bag to get the color out.

After that, take the tea bags out and allow it to simmer for another 3 minutes. Then, turn off the heat and let the water cool for 2 minutes to get the right temperature.

Hold the end of your wig and dip the lace portion into the tea water. Just like method 3, you should check the lace color frequently to get the right color.

The last step is to wash your lace wig with shampoo and conditioner. Make sure that you wash very thoroughly to get rid of the tea smell.

When you find that your lace color is darker than your scalp, or maybe you accidentally submerged the lace too long when you dyed your wig, you have to make your lace color lighter. Check the following methods, they can be helpful.

I should let you know that makeup foundation/concealer and lace tint spray/makeup spray should be suitable for lightening as well as darkening the lace color. It only depends on the shade you use.

Method 1: bleach knots

Bleaching knots will also lighten your lace. Pour the bleach into the bowl, and add the cream developer. Then mix until the consistency is thick enough so won’t seep through the lace and bleach the hairs.

Turn your lace wig inside out, gently apply the bleach mixture to the lace and cover the lace with the bleach. Let the bleach sit in for more than 15 minutes then wash it with cool water. Make sure you use a neutralizing shampoo to stop it from over-processing. Evawigs offers wigs with bleached knots and unbleached knots.

Method 2: purple shampoo

If the lace color is only a little bit darker for you, you can just wash it with a purple shampoo to fix it. The purple shampoo will even out the tones and cancel out the yellow brassiness of your lace.

We hope this article helps you know how to choose the right lace color and how to make the lace blend with your scalp well if what you have doesn't match your skin tone. Adjusting the lace color to match your skin tone will give you a more natural look.

Q: What is HD Lace?

HD stands for "high definition". HD lace is a royal lace material that used to be called Swiss lace, and which is invisible when applied to the scalp. This ensures that the wig-wearer can have an exposed hairline, which looks very natural and renders the lace along the hairline highly undetectable.
